The top is finished!

I finally finished the top to Candace's quilt. It measures 56 X 80. I've put it away until summer when I will get my mother to help me sandwich the back and batting. When she wanted an orange quilt I must admit I had my doubts, but it came together wonderfully. Doesn't it make you smile?

My sense of accomplishment is short lived. Cassie (16) needs/wants a new quilt too. (Somehow I knew this was coming.) We bought fabric last week. We're doing a disappearing 9-patch with some embroidery in some of the squares. (My friend Lori has a tutorial here.)

Here is her fabric:

I think a rotary cutter, cutting mat, and plastic template are must haves for quilters. I didn't have them for Candace's quilt, but I splurged to do Cassie's. I've already cut all the squares execpt for the embroideried ones. (I cut them after they are embroideried.) How did I manage without them!?!?!?!?

Proverbs 4:23

"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." ~ Proverbs 4:23 NLT

Our church's Jr. High Girl's Sunday school teacher hosted a lock-in this weekend. The topics were dating, abortion, marriage, being God's princess, and STDs. Heavy stuff for 12 - 14 year olds, until you realize that some of those 13 year olds have friends in their class at school who are pregnant. Normally I would think these were topics for parents to teach, but unfortunately it isn't a perfect world, and most of this country's 12 - 14 year olds aren't getting it, at least not from God's perspective. I was asked to discuss dating. If I was a really good blogger I'd post my lesson. (But I'm a very busy blogger, so I won't for now.) We were asked to give each girl a small gift symbolizing our talk. I made small pillows with hearts embroideried on them. I sewed a pockest on the backs placing a card with Proverbs 4:23 in them. "Guarding your heart" was my theme.

I made 15 of these. Only eight girls attended, but I just wasn't sure how many to expect. This is a sampling. I was going to make them all the same, but I got bored and started changing this and that. I had so much fun making these. (Can you see why I haven't had time to blog?)

This is my favorite one. I still have it, though I really didn't hold it back on purpose.

Be blessed!
